With the culture of modern day consumerism comes a load of modern day junk.  The process of moving homes exposes these unnecessary belongings that have been stored away in basements and garages, as well as every other imaginable nook and cranny that exists in a home. A garage sale is the perfect way to make some returns on the myriad of items that have been hoarded away for the past few decades.

When planning a garage, or “yard” sale, make sure to check in with the local authorities first to see if there are any municipal restrictions.  It also helps to put advertisements in the local newspaper, and place signs with bold arrows pointing towards the sale at busy intersections.

Once the sale is underway, it is often useful to put price stickers on popular items — such as books and children’s toys. Further, grouping similar items together encourages customers to buy in bulk, which is always beneficial.

An oft-overlooked aspect of preparation in garage sales is making sure items are clean before sale — it is more than likely that those Buzz Lightyear figurines that have been laying in a wooden crate in your garage have collected some dust.
One final tip for those looking to host a yard sale is to have plenty of change ready on hand — it would be rather unpleasant if a willing customer could not pay for an item because of inadequately-sized bills.
To those reading, good luck — hopefully the house will not be too empty without all that “junk”.
