Micro Apartments

A new trend has swept the apartment market in New York City, as a result of legislation recently passed removing restrictions on apartment size. The most notable complex of these new ‘micro-apartments’ is called Carmel Place, which opens early in 2016. The rent starts at $950 a month for such an apartment, with more luxurious options available.

Many question whether these micro-apartments will be comfortable with such size impediments — though it seems that the units are quite resourceful. For instance, many units are equipped with retractable beds that turn into sofas.  Nonetheless, Assemblywoman Deborah Glick voiced the concern of many that the spaces are unlivable, and are only exacerbating the affordable housing crisis.
